EFL must be joking as West Brom supporters offered ‘clarity’ for PSR breach
The EFL have responded to a request for clarity from the West Bromwich Albion Independent Supporters Trust, and it’s nothing short of a joke.
Shilen Patel was rocked by the news that the Baggies allegedly breached PSR restrictions in their 2024-25 published accounts, and as a result had a court hearing over the matter.
Albion were then found guilty of said breach, and as a result, were docked two points; however, it was never initially as simple as this.
When the news came out, not only West Brom supporters, but Portsmouth, Oxford United, and other fans of teams in the Championship relegation battle were left with great uncertainty, as there was a possibility that the unknown deduction would be given after the season finished.
Now, James Morrison has been able to keep Albion up even with the punishment, but West Brom fans are still seeking answers from the EFL.

EFL’s response is a joke, nothing has changed
West Brom were said to be over the PSR limit by £1million according to Kieran Maguire’s calculations, which will be one of the smallest breaches in EFL history.
There are other questions that fans want the EFL to answer, as it doesn’t seem fair that this has happened, considering past and current financial matters with clubs like Manchester City and Leicester City.

The Albion Independent Supporters Trust reached out to the EFL and requested clarity over the breach and points deduction.
As seen on X this Wednesday, the trust shared the EFL’s response, which is quite simply a kick in the teeth.
By the looks of it, the EFL think that “clarity” is essentially replying to something, without saying anything at all.
A truly pathetic response that shows West Brom have not been shown any remorse over this whole farcical situation.
Why West Brom should leave it at that
The risk that West Brom play by going back and forth with the EFL, if they choose to go down that route following the deduction, is dangerous.
We have already seen how damaging things can be, even if the club is offside by an inch, in terms of PSR limitations.
Yes, they should question the decision and get answers and clarity, but the last thing that is needed is for the EFL to start digging further.
Imagine if they looked into money for transfers and uncovered more legal issues? Let’s just hope that we can all move on now.
