West Brom fans play their part as season record could be set at Hillsborough
West Bromwich Albion look set to be part of the biggest crowd of the Championship season when they travel to Sheffield Wednesday.
Spirits are high among West Brom’s fanbase in light of the Baggies securing their second-tier status with a draw against promotion-chasing Ipswich Town last Saturday.
Then, on Thursday, West Brom appointed James Morrison as their permanent head coach on a two-year deal after a superb interim spell.
And they stayed up despite being hit with a two-point deduction for a financial breach, in addition to having poor spells with Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay, in particular.
West Brom round off their season at lowly Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, at what will be a packed out Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday vs West Brom sold out
This season, Coventry City, who have romped to the Championship title under Frank Lampard, hold the highest average attendance at 30,184.
Recently-relegated Leicester City and play-off hopefuls Derby County round off the top three in the high 28,000s.
| West Brom vs Sheffield Wednesday | Average home attendance | League rank |
| West Brom | 23,673 | 11th |
| Sheffield Wednesday | 23,352 | 12th |
Both West Brom and Sheffield Wednesday are more mid-table in that regard but the 39,000-seater Hillsborough could be packed to the rafters on Saturday.
The Owls said this game is a “complete sell-out” and this lunchtime encounter will be one of the biggest Championship attendances of the entire season.
Wednesday hold the record for the biggest attendance for a single Championship game this season, as 32,740 fans saw them host rivals Sheffield United last November.
Given the larger away allocation for this contest, that figure should be beaten.
This will be Morrison’s first game in charge since getting the West Brom post full time. So he and his players will want to end the season on a high.
Will James Morrison move pay off?
When Morrison was confirmed as interim boss in late February, shortly after Ramsay’s dismissal, many pundits felt West Brom were taking a risk.
The 39-year-old hadn’t had a senior management role before, which led some to say that a more experienced head should have been appointed for their relegation fight.
Many were made to eat their own words, however, as Morrison went on a 10-match unbeaten run to guide them to safety.
But will Morrison be the right man for West Brom long term? Baggies fans will hope this is not merely a managerial bounce but is the start of something special.
