Celtic ‘desperate’ as talks held over George Campbell, West Brom in line for windfall

George Campbell is bound to attract some interest after his West Bromwich Albion exploits this season.

The American defender, who was signed last summer has been immense for the Baggies, a key reason in their survival push.

A report from CeltsAreHere on 2 May claims that Celtic have had discussions over making a move for the centre-back.

It states that the Hoops are desperate to fill the void left by Cameron Carter-Vickers’ injury, and the Baggies star is firmly on their radar.

West Brom will be desperate not to lose Campbell, given his performances in the Championship this season.

How much could West Brom make from Campbell sale?

West Brom could be in line for a potential windfall from a sale if they allow the talented defender to depart.

The report states that a fee of £2.5million could be on the cards, which would convince James Morrison‘s side to sell the 24-year-old.

It claims that there is also interest from the Championship and the Bundesliga.

Why Albion can’t sell Campbell

Albion face a battle to keep Campbell around, given the level of interest in his services.

However, that is a task that they must do, as he will be crucial to a potential promotion push next season.

Morrison needs to be backed for the new season, and allowing one of his best players to depart would be a huge mistake.

If he were to be sold, the fee that has been reported is nowhere near what Albion should be demanding for the United States international after his brilliant showings.

To sanction a sale, they must ask for probably double that figure, if not even more money, to even consider that option for one of their star players, who is only going to get better.

In an ideal world though, he would remain in the Black Country as the B71 side try and make their way to the top end of the second tier, after a truly miserable campaign this time around.

They will not be forced into a decision that they do not want to make as he is contracted until the summer of 2029, which gives the club plenty of leeway on his future.
