Aune Heggebo: West Brom didn’t get goals value out of £4.75m transfer in 2025-26

Aune Heggebo cost West Bromwich Albion over half a million pounds for every Championship goal he scored in 2025-26.

The big Brann striker was one of West Brom’s main headline signings from last summer’s transfer window, making the move to The Hawthorns from his homeland of Norway.

He enjoyed a number of impressive scoring campaigns for Brann, that saw him end his time there with 47 goals scored in 135 total appearances.

As such, it was hoped the 24-year-old could enjoy a big debut season in the Championship with the Baggies, with Albion chiefs investing in him to be their striker of the future.

However, whilst not a bad debut campaign by any means, West Brom didn’t get the return on their investment by way of goals that they would’ve been hoping for from Heggebo last term.

How much did West Brom pay per Aune Heggebo league goal?

Heggebo was poor against Sheffield Wednesday on the final day of the 2025-26 season, and was replaced at half-time by James Morrison.

Making the transition to English football can take time for young players, especially for those enduring a debut season with the amount of change and disruption of this past West Brom campaign.

Nevertheless, £4.75million was a lot of money for Albion to spend on one player, and as such, expectations were high going into Heggebo’s debut campaign.

But, his nine Championship goals scored in 2025-26 means his cost per goal figure stands at £527,000, which is an awful lot of money for a club like West Brom who have been battling a tough financial situation over recent years.

Did Heggebo score many important goals for West Brom?

Had all nine of those league goals won points and made a critical impact of West Brom’s Championship survival, however, that fee may have looked like a bargain.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t really the case with Heggebo’s strikes last season, and he didn’t have much of a say during the run-in, with no goals in his final eight games of the campaign.

He scored the second in a 3-0 win over Hull in March, consolation goals during a 3-1 defeat to QPR and 2-1 loss to Middlesbrough respectively and two in a 3-2 loss to Coventry City.

But, he did net the winner in a 2-1 victory over Oxford, bagged a brace in a 3-2 win against Swansea, as well as the first of two goals in a 2-0 triumph over Sheffield United respectively.

Moving forward, Heggebo needs to do more to keep his place, as he was one of the few West Brom players who didn’t really improve after Morrison’s appointment following the departure of Eric Ramsay.
