Slaven Bilic in tug-of-war as Blackburn Rovers face battle for ex-West Brom boss

Slaven Bilic, the former West Bromwich Albion manager, is in consideration for multiple jobs.

Blackburn Rovers, the Baggies’ Championship rivals, are one of the sides that are interested in the 57-year-old.

However, they are not the only team that wants to hand the Croatian his first managerial role since August 2024, when he left Saudi side Al-Fateh.

A report from Alan Nixon, via his Patreon, on 17 May claims that Rovers face a battle for Bilic’s services from the Turkish side Amedspor.

West Brom fans would surely rather Bilic not go to a league rival, so they will likely be rooting for the Super Lig side to win the tug-of-war.

What has happened with Bilic chase?

Ex-West Brom boss Bilic was in the running for the Blackburn job earlier this week, with odds at 6/1 making him joint-second favourite, alongside others including Tony Mowbray.

The report states that the Turkish side have made contact with the former Baggies boss and they can offer more money than Rovers.

It also states that the Ewood Park club have also reopened contact after previously trying to bring him in mid-season and believe they can offer a more stable environment.

The Lancashire side are understood to be checking on other candidates, such as former Southampton and Rangers boss, Russell Martin.

What was Bilic’s spell with West Brom like?

Bilic’s time at The Hawthorns was mixed, he was well received by the fanbase and recorded a 40 per cent win ratio, but ultimately could not last very long.

He won 26 matches, with 21 draws and 18 losses in his stint with Albion, although that does not necessarily reflect his managerial ability.

He led the club to promotion in the 2019-20 campaign, but was sacked rather harshly in December 2020 with the Black Country side sitting 19th in the top-flight, after a draw with Manchester City.

Overall, he has a 44.53 per cent win ratio in his managerial career, which, considering the level of clubs that he has managed, is not bad.

He has the ability to get players playing better than they are, due to his passionate management style, and he would be a solid appointment for either club.
