Ben Brereton Diaz has been linked with West Bromwich Albion in the past, but the Chilean is once again on the radar.

After James Morrison expertly kept the B71 outfit in the Championship after taking over from Eric Ramsay, the former midfielder will now look to avoid being in that situation again.

The best way to do so is by improving your options via the transfer market, and some new attackers will certainly be on the agenda.

Morrison is now without a recognised player to play out on the right wing or right midfield after Jed Wallace departed and loan stars returned to their parent club.

Ahead of West Brom’s summer window, the signing of Brereton Diaz could be quite a smart deal to make.

Why Ben Brereton Diaz would be a good signing for West Brom

Brereton Diaz is a proven Championship player, and he has often performed in England’s second tier throughout the years. It was no surprise West Brom targeted Brereton Diaz last summer.

With West Brom looking to move on from being a relegation-trodden side, like in 2025-2026, signing these types of players makes plenty of sense.

According to Chilean outlet ADN Radio, Brereton Diaz is a player that West Brom will follow amid links with a return to Derby County and Sheffield United.

In the last Championship season, Diaz spent his time at the Rams, where he scored seven goals and provided three assists.

At the Hawthorns, only Aune Heggebo (13), Isaac Price (11) and Mikey Johnston (11) picked up more goal contributions than the Chilean international.

With Derby, Brereton Diaz often played on the right side of attack, a position that the Baggies desperately require in the summer.

Under Morrison, Jayson Molumby was often deployed as a right midfielder and out of position due to the lack of options.

Loanee Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba had provided little reason to start. With his ability to contribute to goals and his experience in the second tier, Brereton Diaz would be a shrewd pick-up.

Although Brereton Diaz spent most of his time on the right wing for Derby County, the Chilean is an extremely versatile forward.

Morrison would be able to use the 27-year-old in multiple positions throughout the season, aiding him in tactical flexibility.

Throughout his career, the player, who is contracted to Southampton, has played a similar level of games down the middle (129) as he has done on both wings (147) combined.
