Glen Kamara: West Brom should have clear run at Rennes outcast if interest is rekindled
Glen Kamara is surely ready to leave Rennes this summer, with the West Bromwich Albion-linked midfielder seeing his career stagnate fast.
James Morrison will want to put his stamp on this West Brom side over the coming weeks, after earning the trust of Shilen Patel and The Hawthorns faithful in 2025-26.
Shrewd business will be the order of the day for Albion this summer, especially given their run-in with the EFL after being found to have breached their financial rules.
The Baggies won’t want to get themselves into that sort of situation again, and so shopping around for bargains could be a sensible strategy to employ.
West Brom fans will also want to see some transfer ambition though, and in the form of Kamara, a perfect balance could be struck in that regard.

How did Glen Kamara fare with Rennes in 2025-26?
West Brom were linked to Kamara throughout 2025-26, with the former Leeds United and Rangers star now turning out for French Ligue 1 side Rennes.
Leaving West Yorkshire for Brittany in the summer of 2024, the Finland international hasn’t had a good time of things across the English Channel.
| Glen Kamara fact file | Answer |
| Full name | Glen Adjei Kamara |
| Date of birth | 28 October, 1995 |
| Place of birth | Tampere, Finland |
| Height | 1.81m/5’11” |
| Began senior career with | Arsenal |
He would play just 13 times for Rennes during the first half of the 2024-25 season, before heading out on loan to Saudi Arabian outfit Al Shabab for the second half of that campaign.
After returning to Rennes last summer, the central midfielder would make just five total appearances for them in the 2025-26 season, with a grand total of 57 minutes worth of Ligue 1 action across four outings.
Every single one of those four Ligue 1 appearances came from the bench too, with the Finn being an unused substitute for 18 other league games and being injured for four respectively.
Therefore, it wasn’t as though Kamara wasn’t getting on the pitch because he was injured, instead, he just clearly hasn’t been fancied by the Rennes coaching staff to play a larger role in the team.
Now 30, Kamara is sure to want to spend his remaining good years playing regular football for someone, and clearly down the pecking order at Rennes, he must be eyeing up an escape route this summer.
Given his lack of playing time as well, there’s surely not going to be many clubs clamouring for his services this summer, opening up the door for Albion to have a fairly clear run at him if they like.
How good was Kamara in the Championship for Leeds?
It was only in the summer of 2024 that Kamara was coming off the back of a superb 2023-24 season with Leeds United, where he played a big role in the Whites’ third-placed Championship finish that year.
Starting 33 times out of his 37 second-tier appearances that term, Kamara played over 2,700 minutes of league football for Leeds, providing three assists to boot.
As per FotMob, his 92.9 per cent pass completion percentage ranked in the top three percentile of Championship central midfielders in 2023-24.
Kamara also registered a long ball accuracy rate of 73.9 per cent, created 39 chances, completed 69.2 per cent of his dribbles and won 57.5 per cent of his duels respectively.
He was Leeds’ midfield metronome that year, always making himself for little one-twos and give-and-go passes.
Adding him to an engine room that already consists of Alex Mowatt and Jayson Molumby could turn Albion’s central midfield department into one of the Championship’s best next season, and he could be signed for a very affordable fee too.
