Nigel Quashie singles out West Brom ace Andy Carroll for praise after 2-2 draw v Huddersfield

Andy Carroll led by example as he scored a late equaliser for West Brom as they came from 2-0 down to earn a draw against Huddersfield, according to Nigel Quashie.

The Baggies found themselves 2-0 down with ten minutes left after Sam Johnstone cleared the ball into Danny Ward for the opener, before parrying a shot straight into his path to allow him a second.

But West Brom rallied after getting a penalty for a high foot on Alex Mowatt, which Karlan Grant converted, before Carroll headed home a minute later. He then cleared a Huddersfield effort off the line to preserve the point and Quashie said he deserved all the praise for his performance.

“All the things you look for in players when you go 2 goals down,” he tweeted.

“Andy Carroll has been leading by example, putting himself about and given everything since he’s arrived.

“He fully deserved a comeback goal like this with for his performances.”

Brilliant

The game was a must-win for the Baggies in terms of their playoff hopes but as an isolated performance, it was really an encouraging watch for fans.

The two goals came in unfortunate fashion against them, but despite fans leaving early and the stadium emptying they banded together and applied as much pressure as they could to get a result.

By the end of the game The Hawthorns was as loud as it’s been for a long time despite the half-full stadium, and it was Carroll who had earned the vast majority of the plaudits for it.

He never stopped running, battled with everyone and made two huge impressions on the result at different ends of the pitch to ultimately earn the point for the team.

It’s why he was brought in and West Brom looked much more dangerous with him and Grant together, so Bruce may have stumbled upon his best attack.
