Tottenham favourites to sign West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a free – report
Tottenham are currently the favourites to sign West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone on a free transfer this summer, according to Football London.
Johnstone is expected to leave The Hawthorns at the end of the season, with his current contract set to expire and the 29-year-old having no intention of renewing.
There has been plenty of interest in the former Manchester United player, but a new report suggests Antonio Conte’s side have moved ahead of everyone else in their pursuit for the England international.

Johnstone would be expected to sign initially as competition for captain and veteran shot-stopper Hugo Lloris in goal, but there is belief he could take over as number one once the 35-year-old moves on.
His homegrown status is also seen as valuable to the squad, while the fact it’s a free transfer means he wouldn’t eat into any of the budget for the window.
Inevitable
It’s not a surprise to see Johnstone getting a Premier League move, even if it is at a club at the top end of the table.
He has shown on countless occasions that he is a Premier League level goalkeeper and while his performances since the turn of the year haven’t been exceptional, nobody in the team has really performed well.

It’s a shame that he will leave on a free transfer and the club won’t get anything for him, but the club knew the risk they were taking when they didn’t sell him last summer.
Johnstone has been clear that he wouldn’t renew but has still given his all for the badge and it’s a shame that the season didn’t turn out better for him and us.
He’ll go on now and compete at the level he deserves too as the ‘wonderful‘ player he is, while the Baggies must find a replacement to help get us there to join him the following year.
