Karlan Grant: All signs point toward mutually agreed West Brom exit as contracts set to expire

Karlan Grant looks primed to leave West Bromwich Albion after a near six-year stay, as his contract with the Baggies expires this summer.

The winger has arguably failed at The Hawthorns for one reason or another since a big-money move from Huddersfield Town all the way back in 2020.

Grant's best season for Albion came in the 2021-22 campaign, where he netted 18 goals in all competitions, but in between then, injuries and even a loan move away explain the rest.

Shilen Patel and James Morrison will have to discuss the futures of several West Brom players soon, but some conversations may be more difficult than others.

Grant's potential West Brom exit seems both inevitable and best for both parties, who need fresh starts.

There could be a sense of resentment in the fact that Albion spent so much money on Grant, who was unable to do anything in an attempt to keep the Black Country Club in the Premier League.

However, others will feel sorry for the forward, as Baggies fans have actually seen the best of the forward, just nowhere near enough to what was expected of him.

This season alone paints the picture for how Grant's time at The Hawthorns has been on a downward slope that never really looked like going in the right direction.

He missed a huge chunk of the first part of the season with injury before making a return only to be sidelined once again.

The 28-year-old was then available for Morrison when West Brom were in the middle of a relegation battle, which always harmed his chances of playing.

West Brom's 2-1 loss to Sheffield Wednesday on the final day of the season felt like a bittersweet moment with Grant, who managed to get his name on the scoresheet for the Baggies, perhaps for the final time.

Some may suggest that Grant still has something left to offer the Baggies, especially with him now in what should be his prime years as a forward.

However, Patel and West Brom were dealt another reality check this season with their breach of PSR, which almost led to a catastrophic relegation.

The Albion owner is going to need to make big changes this summer, and Grant is most likely still on Premier League wages, which doesn't help his case for a new deal.

It just feels like the timing is right for both parties to mutually agree on an exit, though if West Brom were to offer him a new deal, it would surely be on a much lower salary.
