Ashley Lovell has quit his role as Lead Foundation Phase Coach at West Brom to join the academy set-up at Wolves, according to Training Ground Guru.

The specialist website reports that the former Baggies youth defender has moved across the West Midlands to become a lead coach in the Foundation and Youth Development Phases at Molineux.

Lovell, 29, had spent a decade on the coaching team at West Brom's academy after calling quits on his playing career.

Exodus ongoing

West Brom fans know all too well about the large number of staff members who've left the academy in recent years.

It all seemed to start when Luke Dowling was appointed as the club's technical director and he opted to make some seriously controversial changes behind the scenes.

Mark Harrison, Steve Hopcroft, Paul Gardner, Mike Scott and Mark Naylor are all among those who've left the Baggies in recent years with most of them - including a few players - opting to join Aston Villa.

While Villa haven't snapped up Lovell, the 29-year-old former defender is still off to another local rival in Wolves.

It's going to be a while before the impact of Dowling's bull-in-a-china-shop approach to handling the club's academy is felt.

Dara O'Shea and Taylor Gardner-Hickman are recent success stories for West Brom's academy but there are other bright talents in the mix at The Hawthorns who we'd love to see breaking into the senior side soon.
