Brayann Pereira slammed for 'silly, silly' thing he did before red card on West Brom debut

Brayann Pereira had a nightmare debut as West Bromwich Albion defeated Derby County on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old was handed a debut at full-back in place of Nolan Galves at Pride Park.

However, the Frenchman - playing at right-back - was dismissed after just 34 minutes on his first outing.

Thankfully, Albion were able to get by without Pereira, as Aune Heggebo's first-half goal earned a 1-0 victory to send the Baggies top of the Championship.

It was the Baggies' first league victory at Pride Park in 23 years, while they had only won once in the previous 10 league matches between the teams.

But Pereira, understandably, copped some criticism for a dismal first outing in Albion colours.

Albion signed Pereira as part of a big summer recruitment drive from NEC Nijmegen in the summer transfer window.

Fell summer arrival Nolan Galves has had the right-back berth on lock since joining Albion, but was sat on the bench for this one.

It was not long before Galves had to enter the fray, though, as Pereira earned two yellow cards in the first half.

The first booking arrived when Pereira clattered in Derby dangerman Mohammed Fuseini over on the right byline.

He then saw his marching orders after getting into a bit of bother from Max O'Leary's pass, and absolutely wiping out former Albion defender Charlie Taylor.

Former Ipswich midfielder Luke Chambers, speaking on co-commentary for Sky Sports+, reacted to Pereira's "silly" first booking live on air.

He said: "Silly, silly decision from Bryann Pereria, Fuseini is going absolutely nowhere.

To give Derby County a leg up now, both players on this near side on a yellow card, with Fuseini's pace and directness, you would have to say get him the ball now at every opportunity."

Put it down as a learning curve and move on

Well, as debuts goal, it certainly was not one that Pereira will be keen to remember is it?

Even before his first booking, the 23-year-old was looking really nervy up against Fuseini, who was also giving Harry Whitwell a tough time.

Whitwell himself had been booked, and was withdrawn for Galves after Pereira was sent off.

You simply have to put this down as a learning curve for Pereira, who is new to the Championship and will have to quickly understand the demands of the league.

He will sit out the next game through suspension, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him not play again for a little while.
