Callum Styles reinforces claim for most underrated Championship player as EFL reveal drops

Callum Styles' form for West Bromwich Albion has put him in the debate about being the most underrated player in the Championship.

The versatile left-back has had a strong start to the season under James Morrison, carrying through his momentum from last term.

The 26-year-old was recognised as Albion's Supporters' Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season last campaign.

Despite this, he is yet to get the recognition he deserves outside of the Baggies.

The Hungary international has proved that he can play virtually anywhere for the Black Country Club, and that wherever he plays, he is just as good.

However, that could be changing, as Styles now leads the way for one key metric in the English Football League.

Styles has started in each of West Brom's opening eight games in the Championship, with two goals to his name already.

As per FotMob data, he ranks as Albion's second-highest-rated player at 7.46, just behind Max O'Leary, who has a 7.64 rating.

The defender has recently had to fill in at right back after Nolan Galves suffered a knee injury, which will keep him out for a significant period of time.

He will most likely return to his natural position once Brayann Pereira is back up to speed after he received a straight red card in the 1-0 win over Derby County.

As highlighted by Sporting Life FC on X, Styles leads the way for the most tackles made by a player across the EFL so far this season.

He has made 29 tackles and is just ahead of Notts County's Ollie Cooper and Burton Albion's Toby Sibbick, who have both made 28.

The reveal only reinforces the idea that Styles is one of, if not the most underrated player in the Championship right now.

But West Brom won't care so long as their star man continues to perform while going under the radar; a player they simply cannot afford to lose.

How much should Styles cost in this transfer market?

In an ideal world, West Brom would be able to keep hold of Styles for many more seasons to come.

However, Shilen Patel will know that every player has their price.

Transfermarkt currently values Styles at just over £2.5million, which feels low for a player of his qualities.

He is contracted to The Hawthorns until 2030 and is expected to be one of the highest earners at the club.

That said, West Brom would most likely set a price tag of at least £5m if teams were to come knocking, but there's every argument to say that he could be worth up to £10m.

Albion should be secure with the full-back for another season, especially if the Baggies keep on performing the way they are up until January, when there could be interest in Styles.

But interest next summer seems likely considering the way he is currently performing.
