West Bromwich Albion are anticipating the release of the 2026-27 EFL fixtures.

There are not many more exciting times to be a football fan than the weeks before pre-season.

With transfer business being done, predictions made and expectations discussed, the excitement is beginning to build.

The Baggies are aiming to recover after a poor showing last season, as they were left reliant on James Morrison to steer them away from the drop zone.

With another Championship season on the cards, Albion have a climb up the table in their sights.

And when it comes to next season's fixtures, there is one clash in particular on the minds of all West Brom fans, and defender George Campbell has backed this up.

George Campbell drops the W-bomb

On Thursday at 12pm, clubs across the EFL will find out the order of proceedings for the coming season.

Of course, everybody has to lock horns twice with one another, but the order of this can have a big mental impact.

Albion defender Campbell though, went straight in with his hopes, saying: "Give us Wolves," when questioned by the West Brom media team as to who he would want on opening weekend.

For the first time since the 2011-12 season, the Black Country derby will be played out twice in one year, with fans in attendance.

The pair did square off in the Covid impacted 2020-21 Premier League season, though this will be the first time that the derby is seen in all its glory again, after the FA Cup encounter in 2024.

West Brom's Black Country derby record examined

There are not many derbies out there as evenly matched as West Brom vs Wolves.

Across a total of 138 matches, the Baggies have taken 50 wins compared to the 48 of Wolves, with 40 draws also registered.

Since the turn of the millennium though, Albion have the upper hand.

Since losing 1-0 at Molineux in 2007, West Brom have lost just once in the league, with league wins following this - including two in the 2006-07 Championship playoffs.

The Old Gold did win 2-0 in the FA Cup two and a half years ago, but the playing field has now been levelled somewhat, with the days of Wolves being an established Premier League side now a thing of the past.

Looking to carry their immense derby record of just four losses since the year 2000, West Brom will be raring to go as they face their rivals twice next term.
