Jimmy-Jay Morgan warned over ‘questionable’ trait as James Morrison reveals West Brom plan
Jimmy-Jay Morgan's opening Championship game for West Bromwich Albion kicked off his time in B71 in fine fashion.
It has been an excellent start to life as West Brom manager for James Morrison.
The former Scotland international helped keep the Baggies up last season, and has gone through pre-season unbeaten.
Progress in the Carabao Cup has also set up a mouth-watering away trip to face Newcastle.
And that was followed by a 2-1 win against Norwich in the opening game of the Championship season.
And for Morgan, he emerged as the star man on the day at Carrow Road, but Morrison's post-match comments have heeded a warning.
The one concern James Morrison has had with Jimmy-Jay Morgan
It has only been one league fixture but Morgan has quashed any early worries about his ability to perform in the Championship.
Against Norwich, the 20-year-old not only picked up a goal, but he also managed to grab an assist.
His confidence will be sky high, but Morgan now needs to make sure he does not drop below that level, with Morrison pointing out a worrying trait from pre-season.
Speaking after the win as shared by the Express and Star, Morrison stated: “I thought his work rate has probably been questionable in pre-season, sometimes he drifts out of games, but he was there today for the team."
Having your work-rate questioned is not a great sign for Morgan, but when it did matter most, he popped up to provide the goods.
While the Englishman may feel on top of the world, amid those concerns of his work rate, Morrison does have a plan and says he will "have to knock him back down" as a tough clash against Burnley now looms on 23 August.
And Morgan will be hoping to continue his fast start to life with the Hawthorns side.
How Morgan's work-rate translated into the numbers
On this occasion against Norwich, Morgan alleviated those fears over his "questionable" work-rate and the numbers prove it.
Against the Canaries, Morgan was constantly getting into the action, as he was involved in 13 different duels throughout the game as per Sofascore.
In the fixture, he managed to win 54 per cent of those battles.
Additionally, he won possession twice in the final third, highlighting a desire to chase after the ball.
However, one performance will not dissipate the fears Morrison has been having but it is a step in the right direction.
And if he keeps putting the ball in the net, that will be all supporters will care about.
