Jonas Olsson and Ben Foster are forever connected to West Bromwich Albion after their contributions at The Hawthorns.

Both players played a significant role in the modern era of Albion, racking up almost 500 appearances for the club between them

Olsson announced his own retirement in 2019 after his time at Wigan Athletic came to an end, but his best playing days were always with the Baggies.

Foster spent seven seasons with the Black Country Club, tallying 223 appearances, but continued playing for several years after his departure.

The now-43-year-old joined Watford in 2018, playing 126 times for the Hornets, before finishing his career by helping Wrexham get promoted to League Two in 2023.

Foster and Olsson both fondly remember their time at West Brom, as former Baggies winger Matt Phillips has now joined them in retirement.

West Brom tributes pile in as Matt Phillips announces retirement

Phillips announced his retirement on Wednesday, reflecting on an "amazing" career where he played for eight different English clubs.

The former right-winger was an important player for West Brom from 2016 to 2024, but perhaps played his best football under Tony Pulis and Slaven Bilic, proving himself as a capable Premier League player.

He left the Baggies in 2024, later joining Oxford United for free, where he played 41 times.

Phillips finished his career with Stevenage last season, and has decided that now is the right time to hang up his boots after confirming his decision on Instagram.

Olsson was quick to react, writing: "Class act. Good luck for your next chapter, mate."

Foster also wrote: "Pleasure to have played with you, my mate."

The trio all played together for one season at The Hawthorns, before Olsson decided it was time to leave at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.

The likes of Okay Yokuslu, Alex Mowatt, Karlan Grant, Alex Palmer, Sam Johnstone and more have also sent him retirement messages.

Could West Brom do with another Phillips?

Have West Brom finally found answer to Phillips-shaped hole?

Phillips helped Albion get promoted under Bilic in the 2019-20 campaign, and stayed to fight for promotion once more after the club were relegated the following season.

Age caught up to him, but the Baggies have been searching for a right-winger to create a similar legacy ever since he left.

It appeared that Tom Fellows could have been his successor at The Hawthorns, but the right-winger chose Southampton in 2025.

But James Morrison has now taken Harry Whitwell under his wing, with the 20-year-old one of several promising young players currently at West Brom.

Albion rewarded the wide forward with a new deal in September, as the Baggies see him as part of their long-term future, which will hopefully be full of success.
