Steve Bull makes admission about West Brom star in defeat vs Wolves

Don Goodman and Steve Bull were blown away by Max O'Leary's performance for West Brom in their 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Sunday.

Wolves were dominant in the first half at Molineux, but O'Leary managed to help keep the score goalless at after 45 minutes with a string of incredible saves.

Firstly, O'Leary made a finger-tip save to steer Nasser Djiga's effort onto the bar, before pulling off a second save to deny Wolves of scoring the follow-up. 

He then denied Andre, Mateus Mane and Marshall Munetsi, before a ridiculous Nat Phillips mistake in the second half ruined any chance of a deserved clean sheet.

Regardless of that appalling lapse in concentration from one of West Brom's most experienced players, O'Leary had what was arguably his best performance for the Albion.

And that led to big praise from two strikers who played for both of the Black Country rivals.

What did Don Goodman say about Max O'Leary's saves?

In the aftermath of O'Leary's double save in the first half, Goodman had to lift his jaw up off the floor.

The first save was good enough, but the Republic of Ireland international's antics were better than initially realised with replays showing he made a second save moments later with his foot.

Speaking on Sky Sports+, Goodman said: "[He's not made any saves] bigger than this.

"This is an incredible piece of goalkeeping.

"To tip that up and onto the crossbar. Watch this.

"That is unbelievable from Max O'Leary.

"Huge, huge moment in the game."

What did Steve Bull say?

Former West Brom reject Steve Bull was equally impressed by O'Leary's performance in between the sticks.

"There's nothing more [Wolves] can do," he said at half time.

"I've got to say, the keeper has done some outstanding saves. Reflex saves, dives... he's kept them in the game."

Stats by Sofascore show that, in total, O'Leary made five saves against Wolves.

Based on the xG of the shots on target against him, he prevented 2.66 goals, which stopped Albion from suffering a battering at Molineux.

There's no denying that he was the best player on the park, it's just such a massive shame that the only way his goal was breached was because Phillips doesn't know how to look up before passing back to the goalkeeper.
