Brayann Pereira is determined to win West Brom supporters over.

The right-back, who can also play at centre-back, was signed in the summer in a £1million deal from NEC Nijmegen.

He had a debut to forget, as he was sent off for two bookable offences after 34 minutes against Derby County.

Pereira was then left out as he returned from suspension for the 1-0 loss to Wolves last time out.

But he has made a sacrifice in the international break that will surely help his case at The Hawthorns.

Pereira has turned down the chance to earn a first senior international cap.

A report from the Birmingham World claims that he has rejected the chance to feature in the Republic of the Congo's African Cup of Nations upcoming qualifying matches.

It states that while he was included in the squad named by Claude Le Roy, he will not be involved against Namibia and Cameroon.

The defender is understood to be using the time off to build up his fitness so that he can get into James Morrison's side.

Why West Brom should not be worried about Pereira

The Baggies are understood to be being patient with their new addition, and don't seem to be worried about him.

The report claims that it is expected that he will be handed a chance at right-back shortly.

Morrison is understood to have acknowledged that the Dutch side had a different way of defending to Albion, so it will likely take time for him to get used to the new system.

Once he is fully acclimatised to the way that the manager expects him to help out at the back, then he will be trusted more to feature in the Championship.

There is no point rushing him into action if he is not ready. That would only be harmful for both the B71 club and the player.
