West Bromwich Albion have confirmed that Boaz Myhill will be staying on James Morrison's staff for the 2026-27 season, remaining in the post as the goalkeeping coach.

This comes after controversy surrounding the former shot-stopper due to the performances of Albion's keepers last season.

The Baggies are conducting a big overhaul in the goalkeeping department, and so Myhill's position has also been questioned ahead of a reshuffle of Morrison's coaching staff.

Josh Griffiths is prepared to leave The Hawthorns for Stoke City, while Joe Wildsmith was also let go.

Albion will also look to sign a back-up or competition to Max O'Leary in between the sticks, with a move for former Baggies star Alex Palmer mooted.

West Brom have confirmed Myhill will stay, though there have been changes elsewhere in Morrison's backroom team.

West Brom have confirmed on their official club website that Myhill will be staying.

There have been rumours around the possibility of Matt Gill leaving to join Russell Martin at Leicester City, but Morrison's trust number two will be staying with the Black Country Club.

Two new faces have been welcomed to Albion's coaching setup, including Gavin Strachan, who joins from Celtic after a six-year stay, as the 47-year-old boasts previous experience as an assistant head coach with Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough United.

Strachan can add knowledge from what he's learnt from the likes of Martin O’Neill, Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers over the years with the Hoops.

The other new addition is Tony McMahon, who, like Strachan, arrives with the duty of being a first-team coach, as the former has experience with Scunthorpe United and York City.

Leigh Downing will return to his role as senior professional development phase coach with the U21s.

Finally, a big departure sees Damia Abella leave West Brom after a three-season stay.

What has Morrison said about coaching staff news?

Morrison appears delighted with the arrivals to his coaching staff, and looks forward to the new season ahead with fixtures coming out this week.

The West Brom boss said: “It’s great to have Gilly on board for the coming season because he’s a great coach and I enjoyed working with him last year.

“I’m also delighted to add Strachan to the group. Having a new pair of eyes from somebody with Gavin’s experience will help us massively.

"I know Tony well from our time together at Middlesbrough. He’s had a variety of jobs in the game - and he knows me better than anyone in football. He’s somebody I trust and whose opinion I’ve always valued."

Morrison then paid tribute to Abella, thanking him for his efforts and wishing the coach well on his future endeavours.

With Albion's coaching staff now cemented after weeks of rumours and uncertainty, Baggies fans can look forward to the new season ahead, with pre-season set to get underway soon.
