West Brom fans to roll their eyes at Joe Wildsmith's Wycombe debut footage

Joe Wildsmith didn't cover himself in glory in his Wycombe Wanderers debut after leaving West Bromwich Albion.

The 30-year-old left Albion earlier this summer upon the expiration of his contract.

After playing zero times whilst out on loan with Middlesbrough during the second half of last season, his stock was evidently low.

But after a summer without winning a contract elsewhere, League One outfit Wycombe finally presented him with a deal earlier this week.

Taking on Reading on Saturday, Wanderers boss Tom Hounsell immediately brought Wildsmith into the starting lineup for his debut.

However, the former Baggies keeper will want one moment in particular from the game back.

How was Joe Wildsmith to blame for Reading goal vs Wycombe?

Wycombe and Reading drew 2-2 on Saturday afternoon, in what appeared to be a great game of football at Adams Park.

But with the scores level at 1-1 on 80 minutes, the Royals took the lead before Wanderers rescued a point in the 90th minute.

After Wycombe were robbed of possession just inside their own half, Reading's Lewis Wing drove forward and hit a relatively tame low effort from around 25 yards.

Despite being straight at him and getting two hands on it, Wildsmith could only parry the ball back into the six-yard box.

Jacob Brown then pounced on the loose ball before firing home, leaving Wildsmith red-faced.

This will be a familiar sight to Albion fans, as despite only playing 20 times for the Baggies between 2024 to this year, Wildsmith made a number of blunders.

Saturday summed up a lot of the frustration surrounding Wildsmith during his time as a West Brom player.

Indeed, there were times and games during his Baggies career where he looked a solid goalkeeper, but all too often mistakes got in the way.

Per FotMob, Wildsmith made five saves on his Wycombe debut against Reading, two of which came from shots taken inside the box.

He also made seven recoveries, played 15 accurate passes and four accurate long balls, but still found a way to concede two goals.

So, the signs are there for Wildsmith that if he can find a way to get mistakes out of his game, he can be a big success for Wanderers.

But if his debut was anything to go by, it would appear Wycombe fans may have to get used to the same feelings of frustration that Albion supporters felt.
