West Brom have serious talent in Remar McNeil - this is why fans should get excited

Published on

Remar McNeil may not be a name familiar with too many West Brom supporters right now.

That could soon change, however, following the youngster signing his first professional contract with the Baggies.

McNeil was rewarded for a fine 2025-26 campaign at age-grade level that saw him show exactly what he is capable of.

West Brom announced deals for a quartet of youngsters this week, with an exciting future ahead at The Hawthorns.

McNeil had already committed to Albion earlier in the summer, agreeing terms on a two-year deal.

And on the basis of what a talent scout has said, the 17-year-old winger could be about to take off.

What do we know about Remar McNeil?

McNeil is capable of playing on either wing and is also comfortable playing off the striker.

The teenage attacker became one of the youngest players to score in Premier League 2 last season, with that one of two goals netted.

He also assisted a couple more as his impact was felt in the final third, despite playing with and against players a lot older.

As pointed out by 'Ballersofnext' on Instagram, an account that specialises in picking out hot young talents, McNeil "looks to have a very bright future ahead".

Albion fans will certainly hope so, with the youngster on a "rapid" ascent through the ranks.

And it is safe to say that those in charge of overseeing McNeil's development are equally as excited.

West Brom talent Harry Whitwell ready to be James Morrison's pre-season star

What have coaches said about West Brom talent McNeil?

McNeil is from Dudley and been on West Brom's books since the age of seven, so he definitely gets the club's DNA.

Academy manager Richard Stevens says the contract awarded to the local lad is a just reward for his hard work.

“When you look at Remar’s season, it’s only right to reward that level of quality with this contract," Stevens told West Brom's website.

“He’s been in the Academy from a very early age and has been a really eye-catching player during my time at the club.

“He’s had some hurdles and some really good challenges along the way, but he's overcome them during his academy journey and that's allowed him to grasp these opportunities in the Under-21s."

The obvious question to ask is when could McNeil now be involved in the first-team picture?

Aged just 17, he is still too young to realistically be challenging for a senior spot.

However, that is not to say opportunities will not be presented by James Morrison over the next 12 months or so.

That could come as soon as pre-season, when managers look to integrate youngsters into the senior fold.

Based on his current trajectory, do not bet against McNeil taking that chance with both hands.
