West Bromwich Albion have penned a strange message to Saido Berahino.

The 33-year-old is a free agent nowadays having departed Slovenian second tier side NK Tabor Sezana.

That came off the back of spells with Rajasthan United of India and AEL Limassol in Cyprus.

Things certainly haven't worked out for the striker after such high hopes during his Baggies days.

He hasn't lived up to his potential and is seen as one of the biggest wastes of potential in recent memory.

West Brom have now raised eyebrows after bizarrely reaching out to Berahino on social media.

What have West Brom said to Saido Berahino?

It's safe to say that the number nine had the best days of his career at The Hawthorns.

He scored 20 and assisted five in his best campaign, with 15 goal involvements coming in the Premier League.

That prompted keen interest from Tottenham, but the Baggies turned down any offers from North London.

Berahino has since revealed that he couldn't get over it as he got caught up in his own hype and it ruined his reputation in B71.

Fans still don't truly forgive the way that the striker acted and have watched as his career has only spiraled downwards ever since.

That made it all the more bizarre that West Brom took to social media on Tuesday to wish him a happy birthday.

The post also featured six images of his best days at The Hawthorns

It's fair to say supporters aren't overjoyed by the birthday announcement.

Three questions West Brom fans still need answering in this transfer window

West Brom fans take aim at Berahino

It may have been 10 years since the forward played for the Albion, but fans don't forget things.

Berahino acted in a terrible fashion and ultimately spoiled his reputation as one of the best youngsters to break through in the Black Country.

One supporter summed it up perfectly under the above post, writing: "Such a pity how Saido's career turned out. Genuinely the most exciting home grown player I've seen play for the club. What should have been."

That is echoed by many in the comments section, but the majority haven't been impressed by the birthday message.

One has suggested that he "only has himself to blame for ruining his career," while another believes the attacker "disrespected the club".

It's safe to say that he remains a mixed figure at The Hawthorns, but the birthday message was probably ill-advised.
