West Bromwich Albion suffered their first competitive defeat of the season against Newcastle United on Wednesday.

The Baggies put up in another strong performance against Premier League opposition, but slipped to 3-2 defeat in the round-two clash.

Isaac Price put the Baggies ahead and equalised in the 77th minute after Bazoumana Toure and former Albion loanee Harvey Barnes turned the game around.

But Barnes' second nine minutes from time consigned James Morrison's side to defeat.

However, Albion have won their opening two Championship fixtures against Norwich City and Burnley, and face another tough test of their credentials against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Here, West Brom News has predicted six changes to Morrison's starting XI for the clash at the Riverside Stadium.

Max O'Leary back as Morrison reverts to type in defence

Morrison opted to make several changes for the trip to Newcastle, several of which took place defensively.

Summer arrival Matt Ingram was given a run out in goal, but Max O'Leary feels a shoo-in to return between the sticks here.

Alex Williams, Conor Townsend, and Chris Mepham all started at Newcastle, but all three could drop back out for Nolan Galves, Nat Phillips, and Callum Styles.

That would mean the only survivor in the backline would be George Campbell, who will surely keep his place at centre-back.

Felix Horn Mhyre to start as rested Harry Whitwell

Harry Whitwell has been in strong form since coming into the team, but Morrison might be tempted to rest him here.

Felix Horn Myhre's versatility means he could slot in on the right side of midfield, while Price is about as guaranteed a starter as you could find in the team.

Ousmane Diakite looks set to keep his place in central midfield, though Jayson Molumby could come back in for Rabby Nzingoula.

Up top, Morrison could opt to retain a front two of Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Barney Stewart against a Boro side who have promotion aspirations.
