West Brom's promotion chances predicted by supercomputer after Preston draw
The hosts had taken the lead at Deepdale through Andrew Hughes, but the Baggies recovered to secure a point.
Aune Heggebo's scruffy strike was enough to salvage the result, after it looked like James Morrison's side would suffer a defeat.
The Black Country side pushed for a winner but Rabby Nzingoula missed a late opportunity on the road.
The point leaves the Baggies sitting fifth in the Championship after 12 matches have been played.
And now, the Albion's chances of promotion have now been calculated after the latest round of fixtures.
What are West Brom's promotion chances after Preston draw?
West Brom have a great chance to secure a play-off place after their start, but their automatic promotion chances are not great.
The Opta Analyst supercomputer gives them just a 5.14 per cent chance of a top-two finish.
They also have just a 1.98 per cent likelihood of winning the title at the end of the campaign.
Their chances to reach the extended playoffs, which now stretches from third to eighth, are rated at 42.54 per cent.
Relegation looks like a very distant possibility, with a likelihood of just 0.7 per cent.
That will be a relief for Morrison, but he will want to get closer to automatic promotion and have better odds to go back to the Premier League as the season goes on.
Why the supercomputer is probably right with West Brom predicition
If they are to mount a genuine challenge to go up, the Baggies need to be in better consistent form.
They are only four points off the summit which is occupied by Middlesbrough, and two points away from Swansea in second, so it does not seem like an unrealistic option.
However, they have just two wins from their last six matches, with two losses and two draws.
Their lack of consistency is hurting them right now, one week they turn up and the next, they do not.
If they continue in that vein of form, it will likely scupper any likelihood that they can secure automatic promotion at the end of the campaign.
If you looked at the table, you could be encouraged, but the supercomputer is probably right to predict the playoffs rather than a straight promotion at the moment.
