West Bromwich Albion have seen their early-season momentum dry up of late, most recently with defeat at the hands of fierce rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Baggies surprised many - a lot of their fans included - when winning four and drawing one of their first six matches.

However, a 1-1 home draw against Charlton Athletic was followed by a humbling 1-0 derby loss to Wolves at the weekend.

James Morrison's side are still punching above their weight in fifth place, however, sitting level on points with Wolves having played a game more.

Challenging for a playoff spot this season did not look too likely, but Morrison deserves full credit for the work he has achieved thus far.

He has Albion 25th in the English footballing pyramid, but where do they rank among every team in the world right now?

Opta Analyst use a number of various metrics to help rank every team in world football.

After this weekend's action, West Brom have dropped six places down to 236th in the standings.

That has them one place above Serie A side Lecce and one place below Bolivian side Always Ready.

As for Wolves, they are 114th in the standings after leaping 20 spots on Sunday.

At the top of the standings are Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Barcelona and Liverpool, with Paris Saint-Germain just outside the top six after a slow start to their Ligue 1 defence.

When will West Brom and Wolves' paths cross again?

There was plenty of hype heading into the first Black Country derby at Molineux in five years.

Thankfully the day passed by without any sort of sort of major incident on or off the field.

Morrison will know an instant West Brom response is needed after his side's worst performance of the season in their biggest game of the season to date.

Results may have dropped off over the past week or so, but it has still been a good start to the campaign.

There are plenty of games to come beforehand, but eyes will already be on Wolves' visit to The Hawthorns.

That is currently set for 20 February, but that could change for police and/or television reasons.

These next three weeks will be painful as supporters are left to stew on that defeat, but there remains plenty of reason to remain optimistic of what is still to come.
