George Campbell's call up to the United States squad had the potential to cause West Brom problems.

It was good to see the Baggies captain finally given the recognition that he deserves from Mauricio Pochettino.

He has been the standout player at The Hawthorns since signing from CF Montreal in 2025.

Campbell has featured 51 times for Albion, and earned the captain's armband after Alex Mowatt's departure earlier this summer.

Morrison may have been worried that his skipper would play in every match in the international break and come back needing a rest.

However, that isn't the case after what has transpired with league action on hold.

How has George Campbell's international break gone so far?

Campbell featured from the start in the 4-1 win over Peru on 26 September, playing 87 minutes in the contest.

That was just his second cap and he has not played in his country's following two matches, against Chile and Mexico.

That is already an ideal situation for the Baggies and Morrison, but it could get even better for the Black Country outfit.

The USA play Canada on 7 October at 1:00 am BST, and that is close to when the Albion are set to return to Championship action.

If Campbell misses out again, then it would be perfect for his club side.

Why West Brom will be hoping Campbell misses out

West Brom face Birmingham on 10 October, so that would give him less than three days to get back to B71 and train.

It is unlikely that he would be in peak condition for that contest, if he did play for his national team in their next match.

If he sits on the bench again, and does not play a minute of action, that means that he will be in much better condition when he returns to the Throstles.

The more rest for Campbell, the better, given the tough schedule involved in the Championship, and he may be able to go straight into the team if he does not feature.

Only time will tell whether he is selected or not by Pochettino, but Morrison will be praying that he does not enter the pitch, and add to his previous caps.
