Carlos Corberan has continued to be linked with a return to West Bromwich Albion ever since departing.

The Spaniard moved on from The Hawthorns at Christmas in 2024 as he took the chance to join his boyhood club.

He has now managed 67 games at the Mestalla and has certainly faced mixed reviews.

The 43-year-old has dealt with all manner of reviews from the Valencianistas throughout his time.

That was thanks in part to what looked set to be a relegation battle at the mid-way point of the La Liga season.

The sack appeared to be in the pipeline at that stage, leaving many Baggies fans to get excited, but that has gone the complete opposite direction this summer.

Valencia release Carlos Corberan statement

There was no shortage of negativity aimed towards the head coach earlier in 2026.

The Spanish outfit were sitting towards the bottom of La Liga and performances weren't improving.

Results started to pick up even if the showings weren't the best on the eye.

There were serious doubts over Corberan at the Mestalla, but they opted not to sack him due to the pay off fee.

That patience paid off as he dragged Valencia to a ninth place finish and has now been rewarded with a new contract.

The ex-Huddersfield Town boss has agreed terms until 2028 with the La Liga side saying that the head coach is "the ideal figure to lead the team's growth during the coming seasons".

That has seen Corberan complete a full u-turn in his homeland as the Baggies are left to now focus on their own work.

The pressure is off James Morrison at West Brom after Corberan news

There has always been a feeling that the Spaniard could return to The Hawthorns at some point.

He was certainly well liked in the Black Country and made a positive impression, even if he left in far from ideal circumstances.

Corberan will always remain a potential option in B71 and that only adds pressure to whoever the head coach is to live up to the 43-year-old.

Now that his future is secure at Valencia, it gives James Morrison no need to worry about a potential move to bring the ex-manager back.

With Barney Stewart leading a host of new signings, expectations are rising at The Hawthorns.

That can only be seen as a positive for the new boss after his stunning temporary run in charge last season.
