Ex-West Brom star now favourite for Burnley job and could be back at The Hawthorns soon
The Clarets are on the hunt for a new head coach after the departure of Scott Parker before the end of last season.
Mike Jackson was placed in temporary charge to see out the campaign, but has since left the role vacant at Turf Moor.
It had looked as if Craig Bellamy would be taking over, but his move from the Wales national team fell through.
That has left the Lancashire outfit in desperate need of a new boss at this stage of the summer.
There hunt could soon be at an end as a former West Brom man could soon be in the Burnley dugout.
Burnley close in on manager appointment
It has been a long time coming, but the Clarets finally look set to find a new head coach.
Bellamy was clearly the go-to man, but they have now gone in a new direction.
The odds have now shifted as a major UK bookmaker has installed Sebastien Pocognoli as favourite for the job.
The ex-Baggies defender is now the standout favourite at 1/3, sitting clear of Steve Cooper at 6/1 and Ange Postecoglou, Robin van Persie and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at 8/1.
He could be set to land the role at Turf Moor after he departed Monaco at the end of the season.
That could see the Belgian face the Albion for the first time since departing in 2016.
When will Sebastien Pocognoli face West Brom with Burnley?
The Clarets are likely to be fighting for promotion straight back to the Premier League and Pocognoli could try and lead them there.
Things may not be so straightforward for West Brom, who don't currently have such clear-cut ambitions.
There is no rivalry between the two sides, but having a former Baggies ace in the mix could add an interesting element to the meetings this season.
Should Pocognoli land the Burnley job, he won't have to wait long to face his former side with a trip to The Hawthorns penned in for 23 August.
The reverse fixture comes a lot later, as the Turf Moor clash won't be played until 2 March.
It will certainly be interesting to see if the Belgian gets the job as the B71 faithful are bound to have an eye on their ex-defender.
