Mark Robins mentioned as contender for West Brom job after Valerien Ismael exit

Coventry City manager Mark Robins was mentioned as a candidate for the West Brom job, according to The Telegraph.

The newspaper reports on their website that after Valerien Ismael was sacked on Wednesday (2 February), Robins and Blackburn's ex-Albion boss Tony Mowbray were mooted as potential replacements.

However, it is understood that Steve Bruce is now a "leading candidate" for the job at The Hawthorns with talks progressing.

Bruce - it just had to be

West Brom have been through Tony Pulis, Alan Pardew and Sam Allardyce. It looks like the fourth and final horseman of the apocalypse may be on his way to The Hawthorns.

Bruce's spell at Newcastle saw him widely hated by the Toon Army and eventually his reign only came to an end when Mike Ashley sold up to the Saudi Arabians.

He's had a torrid spell at Aston Villa recently too but ultimately, no manager has won promotion from the Championship more than Bruce, who's done it twice at both Birmingham and Hull.

If Bruce is hired on a short-term basis and allows the Baggies to put together a long-term plan in the summer, then we're on board with that.

However, if it's a long-term contract, it just feels like it's trouble waiting to happen for the Albion board, who have sacked one manager for his turgid football to only replace him with another who has a similar reputation.

We'll get behind Bruce if he's hired.

At the end of the day, he is an upgrade on Ismael based on his track record and the fact that you really cannot get much worse than the Frenchman.
