Matt Gill's future at West Brom may take another turn.

The coach was heralded as a key part of James Morrison's staff, helping to keep the Baggies in the Championship.

Reports had suggested that he was set to join Leicester City, with Russell Martin supposedly close to being appointed by the Foxes.

Gill has worked with the former Rangers boss in Glasgow, and in previous stints with Southampton and Swansea City.

Then, reports emerged later in the week that he was to stay at The Hawthorns for the new season, and not join Martin even if he did get the job at the King Power Stadium.

However, an admission from the 45-year-old may put fresh doubt on whether he will be in the Black Country next season.

What has Matt Gill said about West Brom future?

Gill has spoken about his future, and he seemed to suggest that he is still looking for a new club and is unsure of where his future lies.

Speaking to Norwich-based outlet Pink Un on 9 June, he said: “Obviously, my loyalties are with Russ.

"But he understands that perhaps if he has a little bit more time off... it’s been good to have some different conversations with different people this summer, and hopefully, once I get back from the World Cup, I’ll be going into a club for pre-season.”

Those comments do not sound like a man who has an agreement to stay with Albion for the start of the new season, so there is confusion over his intentions.

Why West Brom need Gill's future to be sorted quickly

West Brom need the situation to be sorted as soon possible, as they need to start planning for the upcoming campaign.

They need to bring in the right players in the transfer window, but they also need the right coaching staff in place to help push them towards a promotion place, rather than another relegation battle.

Morrison needs clarity as to whether he will have Gill around, or he will have to look elsewhere for inspiration, as it could disrupt his planning if he has to seek alternatives.

Gill's arrival coincided with a 10-game winning streak, so his impact is clear, and the Albion boss will be keen to keep him around to try and turn around the B71 outfit's fortunes.

They need the situation to be resolved by pre-season but given that Gill is at the World Cup, it does not seem like it will be sorted anytime soon and the speculation will drag on.
