Matt Gill expected to stay in new West Brom twist for James Morrison
Matt Gill is now expected to stay at West Bromwich Albion, continuing his role for James Morrison amid links to Leicester City.
The Baggies were fearing the worst when it was reported that the coach could depart The Hawthorns ahead of the upcoming season.
Gill was a crucial part of Morrison's backroom staff, the same one that helped keep Albion up as the club avoided relegation from the Championship.
It has been reported that he was likely to link up with Russell Martin at Leicester, having previously worked together at Rangers, Swansea City and Southampton.
However, a source has now confirmed that Gill will be staying at West Brom, as there will be no major changes to Morrison's staff after all.
What has been said about Matt Gill?
Martin had looked close to being appointed as the new Leicester manager ahead of the Foxes' push for promotion from League One.
However, Leicester are now said to also be considering hiring Rene Hake, who previously served as an assistant for Erik Ten Hag at Manchester United.
Even if Martin does get the job, it now seems like Gill will not be joining him at a fourth club together.
According to a well-respected West Brom source, EyaWeGew on Monday, Gill will be staying with the Baggies, but the news isn't done there.
Morrison is looking to bring in another experienced coach to work with the squad for next season, alongside Gill and the rest of the coaching staff.
What now lies ahead for West Brom will excite
Gill was part of Morrison's team for the 10-game unbeaten run that helped West Brom avoid the drop, despite a near-catastrophic two-point deduction.
It's clear that the team works well together, and the news of another possible addition will excite.
Morrison and Co. will now be keen to learn the fates of Josh Maja and Karlan Grant for the Baggies, with potential replacements needed.
Transfer plans are already in place, with the Black Country Club linked to some exciting names and tipped to make some shrewd business.
Pre-season is due to start in a couple of weeks, as Morrison and Gill will use this time to fully implement their footballing philosophy before the league campaign starts back up in August.
