Where it all went wrong as ex-West Brom manager Carlos Corberan sacked by Valencia
Former West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan is out of a job after Valencia terminated his contract.
The Spaniard originally left The Hawthorns for the La Liga side back in 2024 after impressing during his time in England.
Corberan had brought the Baggies to the Championship play-offs in the 2023-2024 campaign.
He would later have them on the cusp of doing the same the following season, but would leave to join Valencia with West Brom in seventh place.
Ultimately, the Baggies would fail to reach the coveted top six in the second tier following his departure.
Corberan hoped to make a splash in one of Europe's biggest leagues, but that journey has now concluded.
Why have Valencia sacked Carlos Corberan?
Valencia confirmed on Sunday that Corberan has had his contract terminated at Mestalla, with the Spanish side now on the lookout for their next manager.
The former West Brom man has had a mixed time on the east coast of Spain.
Valencia were battling near the bottom of the La Liga table last season, but Corberan did manage to turn things around results wise, although performances felt more or less the same.
In the end, the season concluded with Valencia finishing in ninth place, and Corberan was handed a new contract back in July.
Things have drastically turned, though, with Valencia failing to win any of their opening five games.
Valencia sit rock bottom of the Spanish top flight, and have decided not to take any risks by keeping Corberan.
The Spaniard may consider himself unlucky, as Valencia were not exactly in a strong financial position.
They only spent £7.7million in the most recent summer window.
What's next for Corberan?
Corberan has routinely been linked with a return to both England and West Brom in particular.
However, right now, the Baggies are not in any position to even consider a change of manager.
James Morrison has steadied the ship at The Hawthorns after years of trying to bring the results Corberan once brought to B71.
And things are finally looking to be heading in the right direction once again for the Midlands side.
West Brom are in the top three of the Championship after the early weeks, with 14 points earned from 21 on offer.
However, if things turn south for other sides in England's second tier, it would not be a surprise to see them make a move for Corberan, who has proved he can compete near the top.
