West Bromwich Albion are in the market for another goalkeeper amid suggestions of a move for Alex Palmer.

The Baggies sold the 29-year-old in the winter window of 2025, and he's been with Ipswich Town ever since.

He helped the Tractor Boys gain promotion back to the Premier League last season, but his future at Portman Road remains uncertain.

Palmer only managed to make 10 appearances last term, losing his first-team spot to goalkeeping colleague Christian Walton.

Ipswich could be open to selling the Englishman this season, and the Baggies have been tipped to make a move to re-sign their former star.

However, though Palmer "loves" West Brom, there are still some stumbling blocks in the way of a possible return to The Hawthorns

Alex Palmer finances could be problem for West Brom

West Brom announced Max O'Leary's new deal not long ago after the former Bristol City man did enough to earn a fresh contract during his short spell with the Black Country Club.

However, Josh Griffiths looks set to leave The Hawthorns in a move to Stoke City, which will leave the Baggies with just O'Leary as an option between the sticks after Joe Wildsmith left the club.

According to a well-respected West Brom source EyaWeGew, Palmer wants to be a number-one choice in goal moving forward, which puts his future at Ipswich into further doubt.

The shot-stopper "loves" West Brom, but his potential fee and increased wages are the obvious stumbling blocks in the way of a return to Albion.

Common ground would need to be met if he were to come back to James Morrison's side, but Shilen Patel does appear to have more finances to spend than ever this summer.

How much could Palmer cost?

Palmer is only entering his prime as a goalkeeper, and many Baggies fans would take him back in a heartbeat.

The former Luton Town loanee had several impressive individual seasons at The Hawthorns, and is arguably better than anyone who's donned the number one spot since he left.

According to Transfermarkt, Palmer is worth just roughly over £850,000, a fee which West Brom already paid more than for Barney Stewart and Jimmy-Jay Morgan.

It may come down to his wages, but if the keeper really did want to come back home, then it should be a no-brainer deal for the Baggies to try and wrap up.
