Mikey Johnston transfer latest emerges as West Brom exit question raised
Mikey Johnston is probably the most sellable West Brom asset this summer if needed.
The winger notched two goals and eight assists in 34 Championship matches before injury ended his last season.
He suffered a stress fracture in his ankle in March and has not featured since.
West Brom News have covered concerns that Johnston may leave The Hawthorns in the coming months.
He still has two years left on his contract, but was expected to garner interest from other clubs.
However, it seems as though the Albion have no interest in selling their star man this time around.
What is the latest on Mikey Johnston's West Brom future?
Johnston was close to a move to Flamengo last summer, before the Brazilian club pulled out of the deal.
Express and Star journalist Lewis Cox has now shared that he expects Johnston to stay put again.
A supporter asked whether the Irishman would still be in B71 next season, and the reporter responded emphatically.
Barring any unforeseen developments, he is likely to be in the Black Country when the window closes.
Cox said: "My gut and reading of it at the moment is yes given squad as it stands, but never know. Can change obviously"
Why West Brom can't afford to lose Johnston
If the Throstles allowed Johnston to leave, it would make absolutely no sense, as it would drastically weaken the West Midlands side.
They are not in a position where they need to sell at the moment, with Profit and Sustainability concerns eased.
Therefore, there is no pressure when it comes to finances, that would force an exit for the 27-year-old, like may have been the case last summer or the one before.
He was their most creative asset last season, and with the additions of Barney Stewart and Jimmy-Jay Morgan, it would benefit them to have him around.
The young attackers would thrive from his delivery into the area, and perhaps thrust James Morrison's side up the table as a result.
If they lost him, it would surely put them right back into the relegation battle, a place where they are hoping to avoid in the upcoming campaign after a miserable one last time around.
The latest update on his future will be music to Baggies supporters' ears, as it looks like their best player is set to stick around and help the cause for the new season.
