Morgan Rogers sends message after confirmed West Brom transfer news

Published on

Morgan Rogers has sent a short message to Josh Griffiths following confirmation of the goalkeeper's West Bromwich Albion exit.

Albion announced on Thursday that Griffiths has joined fellow Championship side Stoke City for an undisclosed fee.

Reports suggest Stoke have paid £600,000 to sign Griffiths, with a sell-on clause and add-ons also included.

It brings an end to the academy graduate's 14-year association with the Baggies, during which time he made 45 appearances for the senior side.

Albion wished Griffiths the best of luck when confirming the news and the 24-year-old later posted a message of his own on social media.

England World Cup star Rogers was among those to comment, along with some current West Brom players.

Griffiths has crossed paths with potentially hundreds of West Brom players, given his longevity at The Hawthorns.

And judging by the reaction to his farewell post, he is clearly a hugely popular figure in the dressing room.

"Fourteen years later, and my West Brom journey has come to an end," Griffiths posted on Instagram. "For as long as I can remember, I worked every day to give myself the best chance of playing at The Hawthorns. To have achieved that is something I’m so proud of."

"Thank you to my family and my partner for constantly sacrificing everything and always believing I would get there. Thank you to every single member of staff I worked with, not just the coaches but all the amazing people behind the scenes, and of course to the players in the dressing room who have become friends.

"Finally, thank you to the fans for their unbelievable support throughout my journey. It means everything, and it’s something I won’t forget. I’d like to wish the club all the very best for the future. Thank you, Baggies!"

Griffiths followed that up by posting a message looking ahead to starting a new chapter at the bet365 Stadium.

Rogers, who also spent time in West Brom's academy, wrote: "Good luck, bro".

Fellow former Albion player Brandon Thomas-Asante posted: "Congrats bro, all the best."

Karlan Grant also commented with: "Good luck, mate."

And Callum Styles was also among the well-wishers as he went with: "Congrats big 'un."

Seeing Griffiths at a second-tier rival will take some getting used to, but the writing had been on the wall.

West Brom goalkeeping state of play after latest announcement

Griffiths lost his place in goal when Max O'Leary arrived midway through last season.

O'Leary has since signed a new contract in the West Midlands, with his previous terms only running as far as this summer.

Joe Wildsmith has also departed, but Matt Ingram has arrived to offset that exit.

O'Leary will likely remain first choice this coming campaign, with Ingram as back-up.

As for Griffiths, he will now get the chance to - hopefully for him - play regular football for years to come.
