Reyes Cleary looks likely to leave Barnsley this summer, with West Bromwich Albion keen to see a transfer happen due to their sell-on clause.

The Englishman made the switch from The Hawthorns to Oakwell last summer after declining to stay with the Black Country Club.

As part of the move that saw him join the Tykes, Albion inserted what has been described as a "hefty" sell-on clause that will see a fraction of any future sale head their way.

Though his exit from the Baggies was controversial, Shilen Patel could be in line for a much-needed cash boost this summer to aid James Morrison with his own transfers ahead of next season.

Now, it appears that interest in Cleary has been registered ahead of the transfer window opening on 15 June, with West Brom due to receive a cash windfall.

Barnsley CEO speaks out on Reyes Cleary interest

Cleary has had an immense season on an individual level, proving to be the creative spark that the Baggies could have done with, ironically.

The left-winger grabbed seven goals and a whopping 15 assists in all competitions, and even impressed in an FA Cup defeat to Liverpool earlier in the season.

Barnsley rejected offers worth around £3million for the 22-year-old in the winter, and interest hasn't gone away ahead of the summer window.

Barnsley chief executive Jon Flatman has been speaking ahead of the summer window and confirmed the interest in Cleary.

Flatman said, as quoted by the Express and Star: "There has been interest in Reyes this summer, and we’ll continue to monitor that situation as we’ve said all along.

Why Reyes Cleary left West Brom, £5m transfer news and sell-on clause update

"But Reyes will leave the club when the numbers are right for Barnsley. We’ve shown strength in that in January, and we’ll show strength again this summer if we need to."

With that being said, Albion will be hoping that the Tykes' resolve is tested with as much money as possible this summer, with a bidding war an ideal best-case scenario.

Here's how West Brom can get seven-figure fee from Cleary sale

It was last reported that Barnsley valued Cleary at £5m, which could have risen even more considering his end to the season, and the comments made by Flatman.

Blackburn Rovers are one of several interested teams, with Albion hopeful that his expected sale brings them as much money as possible.

Given the averages of sell-on clauses in football today, and the nature in which Cleary left, it would not be foolish to assume that West Brom have a 20 per cent sell-on clause.

If he were sold for £5m, that would see £1m land in the pocket of Patel, which would be welcomed with open arms.

West Brom have plans of their own, and given the financial constraints they faced this season, any extra money will be appreciated.
