The steps West Brom have taken to sign Toby Collyer permanently from Man United
West Bromwich Albion have made an approach to re-sign Toby Collyer from Manchester United - this time permanently.
The 22-year-old joined Albion on what was supposed to be a season-long loan from United almost a year ago to the day.
Collyer made 12 appearances for the Baggies prior to sustaining a calf injury against Birmingham City in November.
The Red Devils took the decision to recall the defensive midfielder on 1 January, before loaning him to Hull City for the rest of the campaign.
Collyer was restricted to just five outings for Hull as they earned promotion to the Premier League.
And it may well be that he is on the move once again, this time for good, with West Brom now making their move as fresh details emerge.
What has been reported on Toby Collyer to West Brom?
The manner Collyer's loan spell at West Brom ended was disappointing.
What was supposed to be a season-long loan turned out to be a three-month spell at The Hawthorns instead.
Collyer was gone well before James Morrison replaced Eric Ramsay, who himself took over from Ryan Mason.
But Morrison may now get a chance to work with the former England Under-20s international.
That is because, according to Sky Sports' live transfer blog on Monday afternoon, West Brom have made an approach to re-sign Collyer.
Rather than enquiring over a loan deal, Albion instead want to sign the United academy product permanently.
Collyer has been used by Michael Carrick during United's pre-season campaign, including an appearance against Leeds United last week.
What is Collyer's contract situation at Man United?
Collyer may have been given a run-out by Carrick last week, but now aged 22, the ship has surely sailed for the midfielder at Old Trafford.
He has made 13 senior appearances for United, but just six of those have come in the Premier League.
Given he had two loan spells away from United last season, you would imagine his future lies elsewhere.
Collyer has just one year to run on his contract, too, so this will be the Red Devils' last chance to land a fee.
Exactly how much Albion are willing to offer for Collyer is unknown, but it could be a shrewd piece of business.
