West Bromwich Albion could soon see ex-keeper Sam Johnstone lining up for Manchester United.

The 33-year-old is coming off the back of a campaign at Wolves where he tasted relegation from the Premier League.

He made just 17 appearances across all competitions as things certainly didn't go to plan at Molineux.

The Old Gold will now prepare for life in the Championship after eight years away.

They will soon be facing off against West Brom in a return to league derby clashes, but could do so without Johnstone.

The Englishman was certainly a top player over many years with the Baggies after his permanent move from Man United.

A Hawthorns switch proved exactly where the B71 outfit were in the pecking order of the second tier.

The shot stopper was coming off the back of a season as number one at Aston Villa, but decided to move to the Black Country.

He went on to play four seasons before sealing a move to Crystal Palace before a switch to Wolves two years later.

Johnstone is now seemingly on his way out of Molineux with Alan Nixon reporting interest from Manchester United on Sunday.

The Red Devils could make their academy graduate the new number two at Old Trafford to replace the potentially outgoing Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

Wolves are willing to do a deal while they keeper could be tempted to make the move this summer.

That will certainly raise eyebrows at West Brom as seeing a former ace at Man United will come as a surprise.

There hasn't been too much crossover between the Baggies and the Red Devils over the years.

The Old Trafford outfit have typically fought at the top end of the Premier League while Championship football has become regular at The Hawthorns more recently.

That has most recently seen Toby Collyer join the club of players to have played for both side after his failed loan deal earlier this season.

Jonny Evans, Darren Fletcher and Ben Foster are more well known options after being regular for the Baggies in the top flight.

Romelu Lukaku is arguably the biggest name to have played for both, while Kieran Richardson is remembered for his role in the great escape.

Johnstone has already played for both sides, of course, but could soon be featuring for Man United after his 2018 exit.
