West Brom hopes of Danny Imray transfer boosted after Wolves developments
West Bromwich Albion were thought to be going head to head with Wolves among other Championship clubs for the signature of Danny Imray.
The Baggies are keen to re-sign the full-back, only this time on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell at The Hawthorns.
Imray had a difficult start to life under Eric Ramsay, but the re-appointment of James Morrison allowed his talent to shine through.
Following the expiration of his loan deal, the Englishman has returned to his parent club Crystal Palace, who he looks likely to leave this summer.
Albion have registered their interest, but a previous report named Wolves and Burnley as two other clubs in the mix to capture him.
However, West Brom may have more confidence that they can, in fact, sign Imray, due to Wolves' transfer activity.
Danny Imray unlikely to join Wolves after Kieran Tripper signing
The last thing that Shilen Patel will want is a battle to sign Imray while being up against team's with parachute payments.
Though the level on Wolves and Burnley's interest was yet to be revealed, the fact they were even mentioned alongside Imray was alarming.
However, Rob Edwards' side have only gone and brought Kieran Trippier to Molineux, which suggests Imray would be a certain back-up option.
The reason that the 22-year-old would be leaving Selhurst Park is to find a new club where he can be an important part of a first-team squad.
That now looks unlikely to be the case at Wolves, as West Brom's competition has just narrowed down even further.
Burnley would still be a clear threat, but the uncertainty of who their next manager will be also works in Albion's favour.
West Brom have edge for Imray contract
Any offer that West Brom hand Imray has to be one that is enticing.
While the Baggies cannot compete financially with some Championship sides, let alone those with parachute payements, they have other promises they can make to the player.
Imray will know that he is welcomed back at The Hawthorns, and not only that, would have a guranteed spot in the starting eleven.
He arguably played his best football of his career so far under Morrison, and will surely be excited by the prospect of signing on with the Black Country Club permanently.
