West Bromwich Albion are understood to have sealed the signing of Barney Stewart.

The Baggies have been linked with the Falkirk striker for a considerable while, and it appears they have finally reached a breakthrough.

James Morrison is desperate for attacking reinforcements, as Daryl Dike will leave and Josh Maja has not agreed to a new contract.

The 22-year-old notched 18 goals and two assists in 33 matches in all competitions for the Stirlingshire side last season.

Stewart would fit the bill for the kind of player that Albion are targeting at the moment.

It seems that it is a matter of time before he is lining up at The Hawthorns after a new update was shared.

What is the latest on Barney Stewart and West Brom?

West Brom had Championship rivals for Stewart's signature, but they appear to have won the race.

Pete O'Rourke shared on Wednesday that the Baggies are set to sign the Scotland Under-21 ace.

He stated that the young forward has agreed to a four-year contract and has passed a medical with the West Midlands side.

Why West Brom fans should be excited about Stewart signing

Baggies supporters should be excited if they sign Stewart, as he looks like a top-class prospect in the making.

He has already shown the kind of determination that it takes to succeed in English football, playing for Herriot-Watt University before moving to Falkirk.

His numbers for John McGlynn's side give cause for optimism too, as he outperformed all of the Black Country outfit's options from the most recent campaign.

Aune Heggebo beat his goal tally by one, but the Scotsman averaged more shots and a much better goal per minute ratio.

The Scottish Premiership is regarded as a similar level to the second tier in England, so it should not be too much of an adjustment for Stewart to settle right in.

His figures suggest that he could challenge Heggebo for the starting spot and provide Morrison with another genuine option to lead the line, which should bode well for the B71 side.

The club are clearly transitioning to a different recruitment model, without the spectre of Profit and Sustainability regulations looming over them, and it could pay off with the Scottish striker.
