West Brom surely have the green light to complete Alex Palmer transfer - here's why
West Brom could finally open the door for Alex Palmer's return.
Fans have wanted the 29-year-old back at The Hawthorns ever since his move to Ipswich Town.
His January 2025 move hasn't really worked out as his one of his only moment of success came on his debut away to Aston Villa.
That prompted him to be named as number two in the Championship as Christian Walton was given the nod by Kieran McKenna.
The decision worked in the Tractor Boys' favour as promotion was secured, but it has only added to the uncertainty surrounding the keeper.
Palmer could now have the perfect chance to seal a B71 comeback after the latest at Portman Road.
West Brom could now pounce on Alex Palmer
Max O'Leary has put pen to paper on a new contract after an excellent spell following his January switch.
He will be keen to remain as the go-to pick under James Morrison for the upcoming season.
That hasn't stopped Palmer from being linked with The Hawthorns again, as covered by West Brom News.
It now seems as if an Ipswich exit is more likely as they look set to sign a new shot-stopper.
That comes after Dutch reporter Mike Verweij stated on Saturday that Volendam keeper Kayne van Oevelen has agreed a five-year contract at Portman Road.
The Telegraaf journalist reported that the 22-year-old is ready for a medical on Sunday before joining up with the Tractor Boys on Monday.
With Ipswich reportedly spending £3.4million on the Dutchman, it could force sales to stop their squad bloating.
The Baggies could benefit from that as a departure for Palmer may now be on the agenda.
Could West Brom sign Palmer from Ipswich?
There's no doubt that the signing of a new goalkeeper in Suffolk doesn't look good for the ex-Albion ace.
Having made just 10 Championship appearances last season, with his last coming in October, he wouldn't have had high hopes for the Premier League.
That will only be made worse by the introduction of van Oevelen at Portman Road.
The decision will ultimately be in Palmer's hands over what happens next and whether he wants to be a second or third choice keeper for the year.
If he doesn't, West Brom could step in and bring the shot-stopper back to The Hawthorns after 18 months away.
