Former West Brom winger Matt Phillips has made a move to Stevenage.

The 34-year-old made 255 appearances during an eight-year stint with the Baggies, scoring 31 times and registering 31 assists.

Phillips left the club in 2024, joining Oxford United as they were promoted to the Championship.

Though the experienced wideman has been out-of-favour this term, after appearing 28 times for the U's in the league last term, prompting his switch to Stevenage.

Following Phillips' move to the League One outfit, West Brom's players have sent messages of support, including current midfielder Alex Mowatt.

After making just eight Championship appearances for Oxford this term, Phillips' contract was terminated by mutual consent at the end of the January transfer window.

Scoring just twice across all competitions during his time with the U's, a step down a division was in order for Phillips, now aged 34.

With Stevenage posting the announcement on their Instagram, current Albion man Mowatt replied saying: "Love it, brother."

Injured forward Karlan Grant would reply simply with a fire emoji, while former defender Cedric Kipre said: "Let's go, brother".

A much-loved member of the squad at The Hawthorns, Phillips will eye the Stevenage move as a potential home to spend the final days of his career, having played across all four divisions throughout his career.

West Brom could do with a player of Phillips' ilk now

Albion are scrapping at the wrong end of the Championship, with just two points separating West Brom and the relegation zone.

Eric Ramsay is still searching for his first win in charge of the club, and it cannot be ignored that the club could still do with a player of Phillips' ilk now.

With the aforementioned Mowatt past his prime years, and Tom Fellows moving on to Southampton last summer, the Baggies are left without anyone capable of consistent delivery either out wide or centrally.

Phillips was extremely versatile for West Brom, operating either as a winger or wing-back, and his wand of a right foot proved crucial in.

Also holding the armband at times, the wideman was a crucial cog in the Baggies dressing room, and you have to wonder whether Ramsay could do with him now as the club look to secure their Championship future.
