Bilic confirms big West Brom injury boost ahead of clash v Barnsley
Slaven Bilic has confirmed that left-back Kieran Gibbs “should” be available for West Brom when they take on Barnsley on Boxing Day.
Gibbs, 30, has had a stop-start season for the Baggies thanks to a number of different injury issues that have kept him on the sidelines.
He made a goalscoring return to action on November 27 in West Brom’s 4-1 win against Bristol City and played in two more matches before he suffered yet another setback in the 5-1 hammering of Swansea this month.
The former Arsenal left-back has been unavailable for Albion’s last three matches but there is a chance he will be in the squad at Oakwell on Thursday.
“With Gibbo, you never know. He should be,” Bilic said, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail. “His target was for Boxing Day, for him and the whole medical staff. He should be fit.”
It will be a major boost for West Brom to have Gibbs available for selection on Thursday.
The 10-times England international has only made eight appearances in the Championship this season but he has always looked like a big threat to opposing teams down the left-flank.
He was in great form against Bristol City, Preston and Swansea before getting injured against the Welsh side, so hopefully he can pick up where he left off against Barnsley this week.
Who does Bilic drop to play Gibbs though, if the experienced left-back is available?
Darnell Furlong put in a man of the match shift as he scored in the draw with Brentford on Saturday but Nathan Ferguson does seem to be Bilic’s preferred choice.
We shall soon find out.
