Sky Sports journalist calls on West Brom and Leeds to be promoted to PL

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has suggested that West Brom and Leeds United should be promoted to the Premier League.

On Friday, elite-level football in England ground to a halt with the Premier League and EFL suspending all fixtures until early April due to the growing threat of the coronavirus pandemic.

Although games are planned to be back underway on April 3, the growth and spread of the virus could mean that date will change.

As a result, it leaves major questions about what happens with the current season.

West Brom are second in the Championship, six points clear of third-placed Fulham and have occupied the automatic promotion spots for pretty much the entire campaign.

And Solhekol has suggested on his personal Twitter account that the Premier League should have 22 clubs in it next season, with Albion and Leeds going up and no teams being relegated.

As West Brom supporters, we would no doubt be happy if this was the outcome but for a moment, think how supporters of Fulham, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and so on would feel when they are mathematically in the race for automatic promotion.

It wouldn’t be fair to scrap this season now and hand out promotions to West Brom and Leeds because anything could have happened in the final nine games.

The best course of action would be to somehow finish this season but that brings up more issues like contracts, the summer transfer window and loans expiring.

It’s something where we’re just going to have to wait and see what happens.
