Nathan Ferguson has congratulated Tom Sharpe after the young midfielder put pen to paper on a new deal at West Brom.
Sharpe, 19, confirmed on his personal Instagram account on Monday that he has penned a professional deal with the Baggies after rising through the ranks of their academy.
The midfielder is yet to play for West Brom’s Under-23s in Premier League 2 but was named on the bench a couple of times by Deon Burton before the youth season was curtailed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A number of young Baggies players have been congratulating Sharpe on his new deal and exit-bound Ferguson is one of them.
The full-back wrote: “Nice one, Sharpy.”
Most West Brom fans will no doubt be hoping that Ferguson’s decision to quit the club at the end of his contract won’t rub off on any other youngsters at The Hawthorns.
We haven’t seen much of Sharpe so it remains to be seen what kind of player he is and how he can do as a Baggies player but one thing is for sure and that is that Albion have the potential to produce some real top-quality young players.
Is Sharpe one of them? We definitely hope so.
West Brom have a lot of young players who are knocking on the door of the first-team without taking that next step towards being a regular feature in the starting line-up.
Ferguson managed that before he decided he would quit The Hawthorns amid interest from Crystal Palace.
His contract expires Tuesday (today) so he won’t be Albion’s problem for much longer.
In other West Brom news, David Prutton has predicted the score for Albion versus Sheffield Wednesday.
