'Liability' - Many West Brom fans blast player 'Sleepwalking back to the EFL' at HT v Everton

West Brom fans have blasted Romaine Sawyers for his first-half performance against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

Sawyers, 28, was widely criticised for his almost-anonymous display in the 3-0 defeat to Leicester last week and it was more of the same on Merseyside this weekend as the ex-Brentford playmaker failed to impress.

He almost gifted Everton a massive chance to equalise after Grady Diangana opened the scoring when he lost possession with a loose pass inside his own penalty area.

Overall, the first-half seemed to pass Sawyers by yet again, which further suggests that he is not comfortable in the new 3-4-3 formation that Slaven Bilic is using.

West Brom fans on Twitter have not shown any sympathy towards the central midfielder though, with one saying he’s a “liability”.

Here is a selection of their tweets:

For those calling for Sawyers to be taken off, what alternative does Bilic have that doesn’t weaken the team?

Rekeem Harper and Sam Field are on the bench but neither of them would really be a drastic upgrade on the former Brentford man.

Both are still young players who’ve not really gone above and beyond the level they were at a couple of years back.

Sawyers, for now, is the best option there for West Brom and that just shows how this squad has not been improved since the end of last season when the club was in the Championship.

If anything, the lack of Filip Krovinovic and experienced heads like Chris Brunt and Gareth Barry suggests that this squad is still worse than last season.

In other West Brom news, Bilic confirmed an injury blow to one of his players after the win against Harrogate.
