We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips still believes that Kenneth Zohore will exit West Brom – at least on loan – before the transfer window closes at 5pm on Friday.
The Express & Star reported earlier this week that Sheffield Wednesday were in advanced talks to sign the 26-year-old striker.
Despite this, Phillips sees Zohore leaving as it would make sense from a financial point of view by the Baggies and the player himself might want to leave.
“If I was a betting man then yes, I would say he’d go because he’s been very rarely used, he doesn’t look like he’s in Slaven’s plans and he wasn’t in his plans last year in the Championship,” Phillips told West Brom News. “It may be the sensible option [to sell him].
“Maybe there’s a late deal to be done to get him off the wage bill and maybe get another player in.
“I’m assuming that the player himself would want to go and play regularly somewhere else so it wouldn’t surprise me to read on Friday night that he’s gone on a loan deal somewhere.”
If Zohore wants to stay at The Hawthorns and stake his claim for a place at West Brom then that’s fair enough – but it’s also deluded.
Zohore barely played for Albion last season and has not featured in any matches this term.
Karlan Grant’s imminent arrival is also going to push him further down Slaven Bilic’s pecking order.
At the age of 26, Zohore doesn’t want his career to stall either.
It makes sense for everyone that he leaves.
In other West Brom news, this Baggies star is open to a move to MLS in January.
