Sky Sports detail Allardyce's West Brom January transfer targets
Sam Allardyce will attempt to rebuild the spine of his West Brom side in the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
The Baggies are desperate for some new blood with the current crop of players utterly failing to impress this season, with one or two notable exceptions.
Ahead of the transfer window opening, Sky Sports have provided an update on where Allardyce will look to strengthen.
Sky Sports report that while the budget at The Hawthorns is still tight, the board will look to back Big Sam where they can.
They also claim that a new centre back, midfielder and striker are on Allardyce’s wishlist as he looks to build a side that can escape the drop zone.
One final note from the report is that while incomings are expected at West Brom, the club’s finances are unlikely to stretch to bringing in all of Allardyce’s targets.
This means the new Baggies boss has to pick his battles as he must prioritise which areas of the pitch need immediate attention.
Albion need wholesale improvements but the defence should be the key area that Allardyce looks to improve.
West Brom have talented attackers in Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira with Karlan Grant also improving in recent games.
Granted, these players haven’t performed nearly as well as they should have this season but the potential is there.
The Baggies’ defence has been so poor this season with players such as Darnell Furlong and Branislav Ivanovic failing to impress in recent weeks.
Keeping clean sheets is how Albion will stay in the league and bringing in capable defenders to cover the exceptional Sam Johnstone has to be Allardyce’s priority in the next 31 days.
