Joseph Masi: Chris Wilder is still in the running for the West Brom job
Chris Wilder is still under consideration for the vacant West Brom job, according to reliable journalist Joseph Masi.
Football Insider reported over the weekend that the Baggies had pulled the plug on the former Sheffield United boss after certain disagreements.
That appears to not be the case, despite Michael Appleton now being installed as the favourite in the race for The Hawthorns role.
Masi shared the major update for the Express and Star, as the hunt for a new manager to replace Sam Allardyce still on the go.
“Wilder’s odds have drifted in recent days after reports emerged claiming that the Baggies have called off their pursuit of the former Sheffield United boss,” he wrote.
“But the Express & Star understands that is not the case with the 53-year-old still under consideration for the role.
“It is also understood Wilder is keen on taking charge at The Hawthorns.”
With the final round of interviews being completed over the weekend, it appears as though we could soon know who will replace Big Sam.
This is our biggest appointment in years.
We will finally, and hopefully, be going in another direction after years of no ambition at the helm of the club, Slaven Bilic came close, but he was let down after promotion to the Premier League.
Someone such as Wilder will be demanding money to spend, and the guarantee that the board will do everything to get back to the big time at the first time of asking.
Plenty of transfers will be needed to do that, with a rebuild needed.
We hope for answers this week so that the new gaffer can start before pre-season and really get things running; could it be Wilder?
