Josh Griffiths set to join Lincoln City on loan – report

West Brom goalkeeper Josh Griffiths is set to join League One outfit Lincoln City this summer, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.

The 19-year-old recently put pen to paper to a new four deal as he is widely regarded as one for the future at the Hawthorns.

He spent last season out on loan at Cheltenham Town and is now set for another spell away from the Baggies, with Lincoln expected to be his next landing spot.

Crook, via his personal Twitter account, said, “West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper and former Portsmouth target Josh Griffiths set to join Lincoln on loan after agreeing a new four-year deal at The Hawthorns.”

Good move

Griffiths is very likely to be our future number one so letting him go permanently would have been a huge blunder by the club hierarchy.

Going out on loan is perfect for someone at his age as he’ll be able to mould his game in a lesser division before he’s ready to play in the Championship and even in the Premier League in the future.

His talent is there for everyone to see and Lincoln now have a solid young goalkeeper among their ranks. Despite only being 19, Griffiths has often displayed the maturity of a seasoned goalkeeper and his decision making is certainly set to improve as he gets more first-team starts under his belt.

Last season, he kept 21 clean sheets in 44 appearances for Cheltenham and it will be interesting to see how he fares this time around for a new team. If he manages to deliver similar numbers, one could argue that the time has become for him to be given first-team opportunities at the Hawthorns.

In June, Griffiths played a vital role in winning the game for his side, making a brilliant stop against Leyton Orient.

The Cheltenham Twitter account referred to him as ‘marvellous’ in the aftermath of the game.

We’re certainly going to be keeping a keen eye on him at Lincoln next season.
